FORD PHAETON  30-31 FORD MODEL A EARLY FIREWALL IN - Part Number FORD 3031-CT
Description: Model A Fords never had a firewall insulator when they came from the factory--and as a result, these cars and trucks pass a lot of heat and noise between the engine compartment and the passenger cabin. At the request of numerous Model A owners/drivers, we have made an "after market" firewall insulator to fit these cars using the famous Ford "chicken track" texture. We designed these upholstery pads to be installed using existing holes in the firewall so that no damage is done to the original firewall metal. Each unit comes with a hardware package. Model A firewall insulators are available for 1928-29, 1930-31 and the late 31 with the indented fuel filter. Model A Cowl Panels: Ford's first use of the "chicken track" material was on the Cowl Side Panels of the Model A. We have faithfully duplicated those panels for the restorer. They come in brown and have the binding sewn on the door edge. Application: Restoration Vehicles, Street Rods and Customs. Materials Used: ABS plastic with the original "Chicken Track" grain. We had special tooling made so that we could make these firewalls look like the original. There is no finer quality. The ABS plastic material is easily vacuum formed with heat and duplicates the original look and texture exactly for cars built between 1928 and 1931. ABS plastic is very tough, yet flexible, and does not show scratches or scuffs. Color: All Ford firewall insulators are black. A Little Early Ford History Tidbit: While it is generally assumed that Ford invented the "chicken track" texture material used on their firewall insulators and other interior panels, it was actually Dodge who first used this texture on some of their firewalls--four years before Ford began making firewall insulators. We have also seen "chicken track" used on some Chevrolet Military truck headliners and firewalls in the early 1940s, probably a result of the combined efforts among the industry giants for uniform manufacturing during the war effort. 1931
